Frequently asked questions
Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most significant factors in achieving successful outcomes in therapy. It is essential to find a psychologist with whom you feel you can build a strong, trusting connection, someone who is equipped to support you in the most effective way possible. Our psychologists are trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, allowing us to tailor our services to meet your unique needs and ensure a personalised, effective treatment plan.
When you first reach out, we recommend a brief, complimentary phone conversation (approximately 15 minutes) to discuss your needs and explore how we might be of help to you. If you feel comfortable proceeding, we will then schedule a session or consultation. During this session, we will delve into the challenges you are facing, how they are impacting your life, and any concerns or questions you may have. At the end of the session, we will summarise what we've discussed and offer recommendations for moving forward.
We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling of appointments.
If an appointment is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, the full session fee will be charged.
Fees may vary based on a range of factors, including the type of service provided, the duration of the session, and the expertise or experience of the psychologist. Additionally, the complexity of the issues being addressed and the level of support required can also influence the overall cost. We aim to offer transparent pricing that reflects the value and quality of the services we provide.
The type of therapy that best suits you will depend on various factors, including how you perceive the world, your thought patterns, and your emotional experiences. It’s important that we find an approach you feel comfortable with, and this can be discussed and adjusted as therapy progresses. We may incorporate multiple approaches throughout your therapy if it’s beneficial for your progress.
No, you do not need a specific problem to seek therapy. While some individuals come to therapy with a particular issue in mind, others may simply wish to explore their emotions or engage in open, non-judgemental conversations to gain clarity and insight. Therapy can be a space for reflection, personal growth, and understanding, regardless of the nature of your concerns.
Attending an initial session does not commit you to ongoing therapy. It can be helpful to meet for one or two sessions to explore whether therapy feels right for you and if it aligns with your needs. This allows you to assess whether it will be beneficial before making a decision
Sessions typically last one hour. In most cases, one or two initial sessions will help us assess your goals. After that, the length of therapy will depend on the nature and severity of your concerns. Some clients come with specific issues that can be addressed in a focused, short-term manner, often taking around 4-6 sessions following the first appointment. For others, more complex or long-standing issues may require longer-term therapy. We typically recommend starting with six weeks of therapy, after which we will reassess your progress and next steps. However, the overall course of therapy will always be discussed collaboratively, and the decision will ultimately be yours.
We understand that confidentiality is a significant concern. Ensuring the privacy of our clients is of the highest importance and is integral to our professional ethics and guidelines. This ensures that everything discussed in your sessions, as well as any notes taken, remains completely private and confidential. We will review these confidentiality standards in more detail during the first appointment where we will also explain any legal exceptions to confidentiality.
There is no mandatory requirement to inform your GP, but for ethical and professional reasons, we will ask for your GP’s contact details during the first appointment session. In certain situations, it may be necessary to contact your GP, and we will discuss these circumstances in detail during the first appointment. While it is recommended to inform your GP that you are seeing a psychologist, this decision is entirely up to you, and your preferences will be fully respected.
Yes, you are welcome to refer yourself without the need for a referral from another practitioner. Please visit the appointments page for further information on how to proceed.
This will depend on your policy. Psychological therapy is often covered but your policy may have a 'cap' or limit of funding per year. We also accept self-payment.
